Teaneck Basketball Star Continues Hoop Prowess In College

TEANECK, N.J. - Former Teaneck High School basketball star Joel Hernandez built upon his success as a Highwayman to become a key part of the Long Island University team.

Since the beginning of the 2015-16 season, Hernandez started all of Long Island's first six games and averaged 10.2 points and 6 rebounds per game. 

The Blackbirds went 4-2 in those games. 

Hernandez, a 6-foot-3 guard, played four years in Teaneck before graduating in 2013. He led the Highwaymen to three-straight sectional titles and scored 50 points in a game as a senior. 

He is majoring in sports science at Long Island University. Hernandez and the Blackbirds will next play against Fordham Dec. 8.
